Just like this month's issue had describe your "Dream Barn", I'd love to see more things similar to that! (such as dream horses, saddle, show etc.)

Id Like to see more on training, health, riding tips, grooming tips, tack cleaning tips. I am still trying to learn all about horses and I am inteested in learning about the basics of training an already trained horse to be ridden alone.

I have a horse that doesnt like to accept the bit,(he needs his teeth floated), But even before he didnt like to be bridled. Also he wont turn when i ask him to from the saddle but on the Lunge line he listens why is this, Does he need more training on the comands, or what?

I also have a horse who has latly not been wanting to be ridden, I usallly ride him once or twice a week but i havent been able to get him to go any where! Why is this?

I also have a miniture/shetland pony horse( Not sure which breed), that I ma working on training and she doesnt like being touched how can I teach he to be still? She doesnt like any thing being touched unless shes touched with my bare hand! What can I do to help her get over her fear?

I would like to get these anwsered so that I can ride my horses with out any problems!

Well i do love HI a lot but, i would love to see more stuff about horse breeding. Like an interview with a horse breeder. And tips from Dr.Riley to about breeding a horse or pony. And also, more tips about buying a horse, taking better care of it and more stuff about the breeds! I want here more about warmbloods! And coldbloods like clyedalse and shires.

I really love the english and western traing sections, but i think there should be an 'other' section as well. i was dissapointed to see driving in the english section, wile i know that it is english type horses, it wasnt helpful to hear about driving as an english training section. each section should be more focused on things that any english or western horse/rider can do. and the other section could include things like driving, mounted shooting etc.

I am in agreement with seeing more back yard horsemanship stuff and less showing.

More of the less usual equine sports like judged trail riding, putting on a fun show, trail management and maintenance, trail loss.

To be very honest I really dislike seeing half the magazine dedicated to things like holiday shopping and clothes too when those articles come out. I never read them. They do not interest me.

Now if you did product comparisons, that would be interesting.

also how about tack fitting? Saddle fit for both western and English.

I love all the new breed articles and seeing you featuring some of the less know breeds. Fresians and QH's are done to death. Lets see horses like the Prezwalskis horse, Knabstrupper, wild horse in other countries, rare breeds and endangered breeds.

I've been a subscriber for 7 years now and there's something I've noticed that's a trend. It's the same sports over and over again. I know those are what most people compete in, but leave that for the training articles, not as features!

I personally would like to see a new less known sport introduced every month along with training tips and how to get involved! For instance, I participate in Civil War Reenacting within the Cavalry. We are a part of 1000's of people that participate in this hobby. At Gettysburg alone, over 800 riders participate! It's not just something seen in the movies.

Another good one is Cowboy Mounted Shooting. This is another sport now sweeping across the country by the droves!

Team penning and Ranch sorting have been introduced maybe once.

Jousting, I saw the article upon that.

Roping is gaining popularity, espcially in the Southeast.

Polo, vaulting, steer wrestling... The list can go on.

While I know you've had some of these in articles previously it would be nice to go into more detail. I'd like to know more about the sports, but not like you have done previously where it's "Here's this sport. This guy says it's lots of fun and take time. Pretty pictures. Your horse has to be like this to do it. Have a nice day."

I'll give and example with Civil War Reenacting:

Any and every type of horse can participate. Even the high strung ones will suprise you!

Riders have to be able to load, fire, and aim a gun from horseback as well as while going at a full gallop. Riders also have to be able to fight with sabers from horseback.

Gun training tips or a whole article seperatly would be great!!

The typical cost to get into it is around $2000, but units are like family and much stuff can be borrowed before deciding to buy your own.

There could be so much listed about it. And don't talk to just a trainer that does it or a school that teaches it, talk to some guys right off the field and take pictures at a reenactment to see them in action with their mismatched, scratched and worn gear. The more authentic, the better!

Also, like previously mentioned, I would love love love to see an article on gun training your horse!

Uhh...Mustangs are a different breed of horse entirely. Just because a horse is feral does not automatically make it a mustang.

I personally would love to see an article about color/ pattern genes. Something that explains Sabino and other patterns or unusual colors. I have a sabino Paint Horse and I'm very interested.

I've been a subscriber for about 20 years, and have seen the magazine go through a few changes over that time.

That said...I would like to see more articles geared to the average backyard horseowner such as:

Pasture management tips

Care and management tips on a limited budget

Solo schooling (no trainer)

Feeding economically (plus nutrition articles to go with that!)

Tips for choosing a good vet and farrier

Choosing a good horse on a budget (under $2000)

And based on all this-maybe some articles on remedial training!(Many good horses can be bought cheaply and reschooled, so long as they're reasonably sound and safe!)

What I'd like to see stay:

I love the well rounded format-geared toward both Western and English

Definitely "Life of Dr. Riley" (kind of took the place of Cindy Hale's "Life With Horses" for me-don't enjoy reading the blog on the computer)

English Arena and Western Roundup- though it would be neat if some tips could be added on how to do some of the suggested things alone, as well as with a trainer- not everyone can afford lessons! ( I realize that's not always possible-maybe some suggestions on how to train a non horse or beginner horse person what to look for)

I really enjoy the magazine, and look forward to finding it in my mailbox every month!

I agree with some people that it would be nice to see "real" horses and riders. Some that are not perfectly trained, groomed, ect.... Perhaps before hand in an issue you could ask us subscribers to send in pictures of themselves riding whatever style you are looking for for an issue.

I think too that more natural horsemanship should be in the magazine. I am the only one at my barn who can ride my POA gelding, Copper, with neither saddle or bridle as well as the fact that if I say "ho" or "easy" he will stand still until I whistle and he will come to me. The "show people" at the barn freaked out like he was going to run away!! I just dont see people "connecting" with their horses as much as before.

Perhaps also there could be a page or 2 of Drawings and Poems that subscribers like me could send in. I think that would be AWESOME!!!! To show off customer talents and for the person to see their artwork in a magazine!! How cool would that be? Also, I think that you should allow for more "snapshots" that people send in of their own horses, I know I would love to see more pictures. The Drawings and Poems though I think would be a super idea for your magazine; It is definately a talent to draw horses/unicorns/pegasus ect.... and Poems are special to your heart!!

It would also be nice to have a column where readers can write in and ask for general help with issues ~ maybe something like on the internet even.

I'd like to see more articles on out of the arena training. Things you can do out on trail to school a horse. Also maybe some cool places to camp/ explore with your horse thats inexpensive that a family can do.

and more western stuff, they're hardly any western magizeens out there! western horsemen is nice, but its more for some one who runs a ranch.

and idk, something to get the readers more involved i want to be a PART of my fave magizeen!

I'd like to see some more kid/ teen friendly articles. I read Young Rider, and Im thirteen, but I believe that most of the articles in that magazine are too (how do I put this?) "No duh". It only has articles about things I already know. I read Horse Illustrated for that very reason. But there aren't any articles that are friendly for very horse-serious teens and kids.

I would also like to see trick horse training articles, possibly featuring Tommie Turvey.

I would like to see some articles about how to decide on and find the right show. I have a hard time finding/ locating shows. I would also like to see articles on how to move up to bigger/ better shows.

I want to see more stuff with hunters. I want to see a hunter article that is brought back down to the basics and broken up for the beginning hunter rider to see.

I want to see A LOT on retraining OTTB's. I would also like a story on OTTB training sucess because so many off-the-tracker's need homes and an article could really help many find homes.

An article on horse abuse awareness!

Money and time saving tips for the every day, money struggling horse person.

Articles about how to make money with horses in small businesses. This article I would like to be aimed towards teens and young people (and starting horse people) who would like to start their own horse businesses. Also, none of the "big time horse trainer" people- that has gotten old!

A horse business person of the month (EVERY MONTH). I love to see how people's horse related ideas are making them money! One entrepnear I would like to see featured is Delaney O'Donnell, a kid who recycles old horse shoes and turns them into art. her site is www.horseshues.com.

Um, let's see here...

More articles on saddle fit and evaluating saddle fit. Also, purchasing new horse equipment and deciding what you need and don't need. I tend to splurge and it would be good to know what is necessary for your horse and what isn't!

Tack room organization on a budget. Everyone could use this article! I would like to know how to keep a tack room clean- even with messy boarders around!

dealing with troublesome boarders at your boarding stable! Whether someone isnt doing a fair share of work or crowding the ring- I would like to see an article about how to deal with the boarders that we have to live with!

I would like to see something on someone who has a new horse. Just something like tips, warnings, and ideas. It would also be neat to have a section with bonding with your horse. Maybe one month have equine massage, and then join up, just something fun. The only other thing I can think of is have more input from the readers.

While I too would like much more indepth articles and a Q&A section, one thing I would like to see a lot less of is the clothing/shopping articles. It seems as if every month there's a new feature/buying guide on western show shirts, boots, tack, horsey gifts, etc..., providing minimal comparisions and accual information and just lots of pictures and advertisements. Much of the maginze is advertisements to begin with and when you take away from those remaining pages that could be devoted to true training techniques and helpful information in order to advertise this spring's latest collection of fadish show clothes, tack, or riducious gifts, it really takes away from the crediablity of the magazine. I didn't even bother buying last month's magazine as there was not one, but two, several paged "articles" which simply featured various buying guides and what little there was left of real information in the magazine could quickly be absorbed within twenty minutes at the tack store. If I want to get up to date on the lastest appearal items or tack and their prices, I can easily pick up one of the seemingly hundreds of completely free saddlery catalogs and get by far everything I need without the entrance fee; if I'm going to pay money for a publication, I really expect it to provide me with as much accual horse-related information as possible, not just advertise for the lastest fasion fads.

Would love to see more articles on a monthly basis on driving, endurance/competitive trail.

Horse/rider makeovers done cheaply, conformation analysis, rider and horse analysis like Georger morris does in practical horseman but for different disciplines (one western, one english each month).

I think that we need more behavioral articles. I appreciate the training sections, but what about the pure essence of the horse? The thing that lets us understand him? I don't see how we can train without more information about the horse's mind. We shouldn't let the commercial world rule our lives; we must simply dwell on the primitive nature of the horse.

Also, we need more about foals and foaling. One issue a year isn't really enough.

Oh, and please bring back the "30something" we had when moira was editor. that was probably my favorite part of the magazine.

Another thing I agree with is the horses...they are way too expensive looking. I mean I just got my August 2007 issue and on page 51...that horse is gorgeous, but most of us can't afford one like that. Same goes for the article that starts on page 42 and the horse on page 54 & 55. I liked the article on Lauren O'Brien. REAL horseweomen are the people we want to read about!!! But then again it's not all about the shows...you should do articles on older teens or adults who got an abused horse or maybe saved a horse from slaughter and then the process of getting them to regain their health, etc.

I really like it when you ask people to send in what they think about things...like the article "You tell us" on why people wear helmets. I love those things! I think you should have one in your magizine every month.

I also like the photo contest...too bad I couldn't send in something, I didn't have a nice camera. :( I'll enter next year though!

You could also do a contest where someone gets an abused horse and send in their before and after pictures after they've taken care of them.

I really love the HI Profiles!!! Keep those going!

I really think you should also get into other disciplines like austrailian, saddle seat, etc. The only thing you really cover is the basics of english and western showing. Also, you should do an article on driving one month! :) I'd really love to see that!

well we don't want to be tooo much like Practical Horseman, but in that magazine they have TONS of great advice.Of course it's an eventing/english magazine so they can focus on 1 type of riding so thats a plus for them. I don't ride westren so i have no idea if u can possibly do this so dont think i sound too dumb, but, in Practiceal Horseman, what really makes people buy it is that they have the section where an olimpic guy juges people's jumping which REALLY helps give GREAT advice.So I was thinking u could do that with westren stuff so u wouldnt b copying them. u wouldnt have to get an olympic guy u ccould use normal westren riders.or u could do dressage judging and that would be cool.also in Practiceal they have TONS AND BAGILIANS MORE CLINICS THAN U!!!! they have like 3 clinics a magazine.And they list a certain problem and give ways to fix them with jump courses and dressage courses.

Just put some articles in on need-to-know stuff too, instead of random, maybe you can try this stuff or fancy stuff.

HI needs to add more articles for the "backyard horseman" as most of the articles are for showing, more in depth articles as most just skim the surface of what there is to be told. Articles that are geared more towards intermediate to advanced riders so there is less beginner stuff in the magazine. Also make the magazine more adult oriented as it seems the information lately is geared more towards the younger crowd. At least that is what would bring me back as a subscriber
