I have been riding bareback so much since september! lol. now that i have gotten over my fear i LOVE it. i jumped a little baby jump bareback too (like 6 in. lol). I just needed confidence.

Yeah. Its different when i go to a show because those shoes are slipperyer than the ones i ride in normally so i feel like my feet will slide out. lol

RE: Critique My Show

really u r great 4 a person who has been ridin barebak 4 3 days! i fell off barebak 2day. o and just a tip, in the saddle pics, ur feet r really far in the stirrups. i hav this prob: my trainer says that since i hav been ridin barebak 4 years with no saddle, that we need 2 train my legs and feet. she says my legs r perfect with no stirrups but i lose it when i put them bak in the irons. anyway, do u like barebak?

RE: Critique My Show

canny11 (10/29/2009)
how long hav u been ridin barebak?

3 days before the show. And after i have seen great improvement.

i was scared to ride bareback any faster than a walk before i was asked to be in bareback. My horse was AMAZING and i trusted her so much. She really boosted my confidence. But this was right after i started riding it.

RE: Critique My Show

horseless722 (10/29/2009)
WEll drop the kimberwick. this is an OTTB correct? YOu dont need what you have in the mouth you need to educate your hands instead of bitting up. but then again you've seen that from be before...

YOur hands as others have mentioned are to far back even IF you were 'bouncing around and trying to slow her down' IF that is the case then you should probaly have pracitced a titch more at home before going into hte ring. Instead of hands back etc to slow down brace lower back and impeed your movement.. But there is absoultly no valid reason for anyeons hands to be in the location that yours were.

Turn out do a bridle path not a bridle 8 land highway... Drop that particular saddle pad.. they are not even accepted in rated shows breed and lower level yes but rated no. Gloves on your hands always. Black gloves.

I dont do breback that well as I dont ride it because I cant even get on a horse with out a saddle even with a leg up so Im not going to do anything other than the general stuf above...

But hte 2nd set of pictures are very intresting...

1) what is hte point of dropping your hands below the withers? A postioin btw hands shold never be in... If you're goin go 'soften' and get your horse to relax etc you do it by riding properly with contact wit heh face which I dont see in any of hte pictures. You pointed out hte horrid puppy paws. Eyes are looking down the ground is not going anywhere so why are you watching it? You're riding in a chair seat. notice how your legs are out infront of hte rest of your body. Again I know this position is popular on hte breed circut but it is not correct. You want to sink yoru heels down after your legs get underneith your body where they belong. I dont know if you leathers are to long or what but your foot is a titch to far in hte iorn nd your heel is nowhere near down. Now it doenst matter how deep your heel goes this is of course determined on the individule but all heels have some flexability and it helps with stability of ht e base ofh te rider. so even if they drop just a tad that is better than what your's are doing right now.

You're a bit to tilted foward. Sit straighter up.Remember ears, sholders, hips, heels in line.. Imagine if you will that you re a puppet with a string comming from hte top of your head. and the string is taught so you are upright and straight.

YOu need to define the bend in your elbows right now they ae just kinda there. Perhaps it is your coat it looks like it is a titch large for your arms. Either way though I think you do need to bend at hte elbows a bit more than you are.

2) pretty much hte same as above. Though the position you are in hlf way through your post( that is what it looks like you are doing) is where you want your body to be. but not your hands... Hands need to be up and outinfront of you. Take up on hte reins there is no reason for a loop in reins unless it is a pleasure class then you can go around on the buckle but that is diffrent. And it normally comes after the rider has established contact with the face so when loose reins are done the horse seeks the contact therefor dropping its face down etc.. Which is how the position is really achieved instead of hte 'headset' thing ..

RE: Critique My Show

Well my hands aren't usually back this far and yes i know i have "puppy dog" hands. But they were back this far because i was trying to get her to slow down a little because i was boucing off her back.
With Saddle:

RE: Critique My Show

For reference, in the last picture look at the girl on the paint in the background.

Her hands are infinitely better than yours - elbows are in front of her midsection, her line is straight, thumbs are up, she's sitting balanced on her pelvic and not chair-seating.

Actually, I very much like her position.

RE: Critique My Show

First of all, fix your hands. Your hands have no business being in your crotch. Hold your reins properly, thumbs up, elbows in/bent, hands over and above the withers.

You're in a chair seat with your knees creeping up in front of you. Relax your hip and let your leg drop down from your hip socket.

Sit back on your bum and relax.

Critique My Show

Ok. So i started riding huntseat bareback the week before this show so i could compete for my equestrian team. I came in 5th of 14. So i consider it pretty good. I know theres not a lot of pictures and they're bad angles and what not...but just take a look.

Bad Pic i Know

Thanks
