I would love if there were more in depth articles about nutrition. Its a sector of horse ownership I feel that many of us don't know a lot about...and we really need to. Perhaps you could do a series about the correct/possible feeding routines of different types of horses (senior, performance horse, pasture puff, etc.)

I'd love to see more info available to the public on FEEDING drafts. More along the lines of the EPSM diet. So many people are misinformed on the importance of feeding drafts. They DO have different dietary needs than light horses and though most can survive on basic forage, they will FLOURISH on an EPSM diet.

And what about a blurb regarding OLWS? I haven't heard much about this lately in magazines.

OR even better, you guys could possibly feature the "Primitive Marking Theory" Here is a link: http://www.duncentralstation.com/PrimitiveTheory/PrimitiveMarkingTheory.pdf

I know that isn't health related, but I figured I'd post it before I forgot! xD

I think more articles should be written about Lymes Disease. Having lost our beloved mare to this disease last fall. Horse people need to be aware of the devasting effects of this disease.

I agree with Hoodsey. Drafts and draft crosses are greatly increasing in popularity but they do have specialized feeding needs.

I'd also like to see more information about the more common genetic diseases affecting horses, such as HERDA, HYPP, and SCID to name a few. There are a lot of myths and denial about many of those (often preventable) diseases out there, and because of HI's large readership, getting the word out would be good.

I'd also like to make an earnest plea here - PLEASE do not answer training/health questions in your magazine submitted by people who are RIDING their two year old horses - doing so just condones and reinforces the practice in the public eye. In fact, I'd LOVE to see a feature article documenting and discussing the wealth of information regarding the growth and maturation of young horses. There's PLENTY of scientific documentation, study after study conducted by various universities, research groups, and veterinarians which PROVES that starting horses under the age of 3 as a MINIMUM has life-long health and soundness consequences. Heck, I'd be happy to write the article FOR you if HI would commit to running it.

i would also love to see and article about why people should not be trying to RIDE their 2 year old do to soundness issues etc. etc. just like mentioned above, i think it would be a good thing to show to my dad to, since he "thinks" were going to be getting on her in the summer(gosh i hope not.)

so that would be a great thing to have in there, if possible before summer starts..

we def. need more info out there about the heriditary diseases. I had to go online and read up on these because i had NO clue what they were, if your mag. would publish articles talking about them, causes, effects, prevention, etc. it'd be awesome.

I also agree with the 2 year old's. Don't publish that . .. provide articles about why NOT to start horses that young.

Definitely more in depth articles on feeding and nutrition for different types of horses-some examples being:

More on senior horses and pasture kept horses

How to feed the air fern

Pasture kept horses-care, feeding and management, as well as pasture management

Alternatives to feeding hay-(what to do in a drought, for example)

How to design a feeding program for your horse(basics, at least)

Determining vitamin and mineral  needs

Horse care on a budget!
