I think that rather than breed profiles which essentially regurgitate information anyone can look up on the breed association websites, I'd like to see more of what to look for when selecting horses of certain breeds.

While I do agree with the "what to look for in that breed when buying" part, I disagree with taking out the "regurgitated" information on horses.  I read an article like that on Fjords.  I hadn't known too much about them, and probably would never have bothered to look up info on them, but after reading that article they have become one of my favorite horse breeds!  I think that yeah, you can find that info anywhere else, but for the people who may not know about that breed, it opens new windows.  So I don't think we should delete it completely, but maybe just include it.  Then I think that's a great idea!

I think it would be really cool to have a "horses in history" section of the magazine.  It could have information about famous horses (Seabiscuit, Hidalgo, "Mr. Ed"), famous horse paintings or art (the tri-colored horses of the oriental states--Korea?), ect...

Maybe even horse traditions like how different horses are/were trained (lippizaners, agricultural vs. show, war horses, movie-star horses) and the different types of saddles they wore in history and how they evoloved--like how a knight's saddle became our english and western saddles.

Furthermore, a general history of riding would be interesting; like side-saddle lessons, how show/eventing came to be, how Native Americans accepted horses and how they were trained.

And then horse folklore would also be really fun --ghost stories from the civil war; what role horses played in the lives of the celts, romans, egyptians, and others, and what famous stories and legends go with.  Now that would be fun to learn about!

What I would like to see in the magazine is something on Shetland Ponies.

But I would also love to see something on Donkeys!

I would like to see something on Mustangs and stuff on adopting them, as well.

How about something Warmbloods with Color (like the paint warmbloods)?

Rhythm is a Paint warmblood. (TB/Oldenburg)

Hi,

I would like to see some more warmblood breeds, especially the rarer ones. Maybe some background info about what is their most common use.

I think that the Rocky Mountain would be great, and also your everyday breed such as Arabians, Quarter Horses, etc are nice every once in a while. Thanks!

I think that you should do rare or endangered breeds, such as the Nokota Horse or the Abaco Barb. Also, not well known breeds are good such as Knabstrup and Marwaris. Some heavy horses would also be good. I would also maybe want to see the ideal look of the breed, like long ears, slender legs, wide head, what is ideal. I hope you like my input. I subscribed to Horse Illustrated and LOVE IT!!! Keep up the good work!

Oh Friesians are a really good option too, they are not too well-known but are AMAZING!!! Rocky Mountains would also be cool. I also sometime want to see Thoroughbreds.

What about the Boer horses of South Africa?  I've only heard about them from one source, never anywhere else.  I didn't even know they existed!!!  That would be pretty cool.  I again agree with the good conformation points of a breed--good to know more about that.

On the Saddlebred breed profile section of the Horse Channel website, I HATE that picture of the bay horse parked out being the first thing you see for the breed. That is in NO WAY a good representation of the breed, just because of the angle of the photograph. He is parked way to far out, he looks soft backed, and he is holding his head and neck at an odd angle. I'm sure he is not a bad horse, but that was a bad picture. I would very much like to see a better photo on the first page of the Saddlebred Breed Profile and if need be I would be more than willing to donate a few photos. I have many.

I would also like to see more information pertaining to the breed and the dicipline they are most well known for, Saddleseat. There appear to be no resources for the breed. I can think of many.

If not for Saddlebreds, I would not have horses.
