So my 4 year old pony keeps shaking his head when ever i trot him while im leading him some where... why do i trot him? i like to get to places faster...heh heh. so he shakes his head trying to be dominant how could i stop that because hes constantly doing it and i find it annoying, i dont do shaking the rope at him or slapping and i really would like some non-violent and non- parelli information, thanx!

Um, no offense but trotting him somewhere is really unessacary, not harmfull but unessacary.(though he is probably really good at showmanship hehe ) But shaking his head is saying "I don't respect you" so yell at him stop him and look at him and say "HEY!, NO!" Make hime think your going to kill him if he does that again and growl. BE MAD! but as soon as he doesnt do it. Hes wonder horse treats, praise, kisses repeat. Thats what works for Rocky!

Hope this helps

I like the circle method. When ever he starts shaking in his head automatically start spinning him around in a circle so hes to busy going in a circle to try shaking his head. My stud pony goes about and has his little tempertantrums sometimes, and sometimes he'll rear a little. When he does that have him do something else to keep his mind of trying to misbehave and doing what you want. but you definatly want strick voice commands. Like Hey Now, NO! and take him around in a circle. Oh it will also get him to pay attention to you.

I agree its probably excitement, defiantly try the circling technique, you could also try watching him in his field, dose he shack his head when he trots in there?
Also horses love to race one another (be the leader) he may just be trying to go faster and is annoyed because your holding him back. Try going in his field one day, put his halter on, and begin to trot when he starts shacking his head, let go and see if he shoots of lol. If you guys have a strong bond (which i am sure you do) he may learn this way, that by shacking his head he cant stay in your presence any longer. If this sounds weird, sorry i just kinda woke up lol! -Sky
