| I have a double bred Zippo pine bar appendix quarter horse. His sire's side has the Zippo lines. His dam's side has thoroughbred and Tonta lines. I purchased him as a barrell prospect, but now I'm rethinking this. He has a split personality. One minute he is very well behaved. Doing all I ask. Perfect pattern, even winning money. Then the next minute he asks totally different:bucks, runs you over, refusing to go forward, spooking at things he has seen from birth, and other acts reulting in him needing stitches and a cast. During one of his "fits" at the local fair, the judge asked my son if he had Zippo breeding. My son stated yes, and the judge said that he heard it was common for them to through "fits". Is this true?

I had an APHA Breeding Stock gelding that had Zippo Pine Bars on his papers. He did exactly what you are describing! He would be an absolute angel one second, and something would set him off and he would go crazy before you could get out of the way. Gave the previous owner a miscarriage (she was just holding him) and gave me 3 concussions from small, ordinary things that set him off. You could not hose or sponge him off because he acted like water would kill him, yet he was totally fine in the rain. I had the vet sedate him so I could get him used to water without him harming himself or myself, and he almost kicked my head in, even sedated. Vet had never seen anything like it. World Champions all over his papers, royally bred, appraised at 9k as a weanling, and I ended up giving him to the rescue across the street as a "dangerous horse" case.

| I've heard of different bloodlines of horses throwing a certain type of personality. Such as in the TB world, if a horse is acting up a lot before a race the usual response is 'must be a Storm Cat.' I know a girl had a Zippo something or other horse and he was also similar to what you guys described. Would be a WP winning horse one minute and putting her in the dirt the next. Although, some of that was probably the way he was ridden, but he had the same good one day, horrible the next thing going on.

| Ok, this topic caught my attention... My mare is registered as: April's Sonny Zip She has very good bloodlines from her sire's side, and has part of the attitude you are explaining the Zippo Pine Bar horses have.. Do you think the ZIP in her name is from him?! cause she will be a sweety pie, and then boom, haha, you're like whoa! settle! she hates puddles, including the ones in the barn from the wash area, but when u get to a lake or something, she's like YES! let's go SWIMMING! haha, it's funny. But wow, it's weird that Zippo Pine Bar breeding is like that. What are some of his sons and daughters' names?

April's Sonny Zip 3/4 QH, 1/4 Arabian Registered Pinto Cremello (with blue eyes!) VHave faith in the Lord.

Playing in water isn't really comparable to aggressive behavior if I read the post right
