I had the same problem with my ex racer, he wouldn't lunge on the line, so finally i decided to try some liberty work in a round pin, and my god he is a dream. Pays attention, does everything i ask as long as there isnt a line on the side of his face.
He goes great in the bridle so im not sure why he got agitated while there was just the one line. Strange racers.

i also hav an ottb. she did this when i 1st got her. i stopped usin the whip rite after her first time lungin. she'd start gallopin each time i pointed it 2 her. so i use a cotton lead rope like monty roberts, so if it accidently touched her, she wouldnt freak out. i didnt push it at 1st. so when we had a bond strong enuff, se would follow me round the round pen. o by the way, ive only done free-lungin with her cause she was abused with a lunge line. i would let her follow me 2 the rite, so i barely went left. after awhile she would go rite without followin me. this mite not work, but its kinda worth a try. good luk!
