^I laughed at the "Canadian bred" part.
Why do you think that is?
Society does not need more children; but it does need more loved children. Quite literally, we cannot afford unloved children - but we pay heavily for them every day. There should not be the slightest communal concern when a woman elects to destroy the life of her thousandth-of-an-ounce embryo. But all society should rise up in alarm when it hears that a baby that is not wanted is about to be born. ~Garrett Hardin

| Ya know, I really don't know. But it has been the consistent denominator of those who just don't wanna!!!!! My guess is that since most of the Canadian-breds I get are born/raised out in the pasture with 100 or so other horses.....they don't need yet ANOTHER "partner". My second guess (actually a corollary) is that they are just fine with the way they are and see no reason to "buddy up". No matter.....they have all (eventually) done just fine without it!!
My blog: www.horselistening.blogspot.com It didn't take 1 day to create.....it won't take 1 day to fix.

I agree - that's interesting about the Canadian bred horses.
As for the "five hour" story, I really don't know if it was his intention or not, but I do know that Roberts recounts the story in one of his books with pride, so if not his original intent, it's not one he's ashamed of. To be honest, I didn't really have much of an opinion on Roberts and his techniques until after the whole Shy Boy debacle, but after that my "I could take it or leave it" view of his techniques was soured to outright dislike. Having come in on the ground floor, so to speak, I can see how your experience would be different. :) I'm admittedly biased.

Yes you are trying to tell this person that join up is not always necessary...but has she told you the situatiion or conditions she has with her horse?
If you know how to do it you might as well tell her how. Im sure she will take your advice with a grain of salt and do what she feels best for her horse.
As for the girl who posted asking how. Take a look at monty roberts work or parelli. both very respected horseman who I would fully recommend to ANY horse owner.
Happy Trails

^In my opinion, as far as join-up goes, if you have to ask... you shouldn't be doing it.

^^^Agreed.
I took six lessons of Join-Up before I even attempted it with my horse.

| It is nice to see that you have not got discouraged by everyone telling you that Joining Up is a waste of time, or that it is harmful etc, etc, etc. Join up is a wonderful experience between you and your horse. I am not going to tell you how to do it, because I think it is more than a set of steps. It is a mindset. What I will say is get the book" The Soul of a Horse" written by Joe Camp. Very easy to read and you will totally understand. This book will be one that you will want all your friends to read.

i kinda disagree with woodrow's mommy. i joined-up with my very well-behaved, voice commanded horse and we hav an even better bond because of it! she now follows me around without a lead rope and ground ties! monty roberts, a trainer who uses join-up, has many videos and descriptions of it. i suggest doin it only if u no how 2 do it rite tho.
