For everybody on here that does gymkanah or speed events I have a question. Are spurs allowed in gymkanah? And are simple curb bits allowed? thanks to eveeryone who responds.

I don't game, but you can use spurs, but they shouldn't be used to make the horse go faster, but rather encouragement. I'm not sure what curb bits are illegal, but I know that you can use mechanical hackmores(sp?) which is just a random piece of info i know,

I don't game either, but I'm pretty sure they're fine.

| In some 4-H shows, you have to watch how strong your bit is, especially ones with a rope hackamore. There's a lot more freedom, especially in associations like the NBHA and PRCA to pretty much use whatever bit you like. Even in 4-H, you can use twisted snaffles, gag bits, hackamores, ect. Spurs are allowed too, but again, in 4-H, "excessive spurring" may be penalized by the judge.

I've gymkanaded since i was a baby and both spurs and crub bits are allowed i have had touse both the curb is the only bit my old pony would listen in and over a bit of a rockeypatch ihad with sprite i had to use spurs or she wouldnt listen a all. in gymkanas there is really no restrictions on tack.
there is no bond as strong as that between a rider and her horses (i love you two) Thanks sunny06 for the siggy!!

You can use both, but remember a "simple" curb does not have any flex at all, and in barrel racing, you need flex.
