My new guy is a Standardbred/TB cross. He has a Standardbred body and head up to the bridge of nose, and TB legs and muzzle. I don't know a whole lot about Standardbreds as a breed in general, and close to nothing about Standardbred/TB crosses. Can anyone help me out?? Thanks in advance!

| Standardbreds: Some gait, some pace, some trot. Some do all 3. They are very versatile, they can do anything a normal horse can.

Both breeds are absolutely wonderful! I've worked on breeding farms for both. Both are very intelligent. Thoroughbred colts are a pain in the butt to be perfectly honest. They tend to be pretty high strung and difficult to work with at times. Standardbred colts on average seem to be a bit calmer. What I noticed is when Thoroughbreds get scared they typically run first and ask questions later. Standardbreds aren't as quick to run, they will take a minute to look first to see if they need to run. They all have their moments though. Fillies of both breeds are relatively calm and easy to deal with. In my opinion a Thoroughbred/Standardbred cross is a good combination. Athletic, intelligent and attractive.

I've ridden a lot of TBs and I'm now riding at a STB race training/breeding farm. STBs are great trotters (or pacers, or gaiters) and I think personally work with a brain. TBs definatly are fast, and very forwardly built. TBs seem to work on instinct and their energy is practically unlimited. TBs if trained to jump usually will jump anything, and by rumor at my barn I've heard STBs take a little more caution before jumping.
