so my friend whom i board with, tells me her horse has ring worm. her horse also goes out with my two. should i expect my horses to get it as well?? the vet told her to expose it to sunlight, that will help it go away. Ive never had to treat it before, I was just wondering what everyone else has done.

Yeah, you've going to need to be on the look out for your horses getting it. It's pretty contagious. You can usually treat it with a mixture of hydrocotisone cream and neosporin. You can get a tube of each and squeeze them into a little tupperware container, mix them, and apply daily. It works pretty good, and it's cheap. But the trick is noticing it early and treating it right away so that it doesn't spread.

| this mare has about 10 patches on her right now, all pretty small. she is treating it with some sort of fungus spray. im just a little annoyed she didnt tell me about it till wednesday, i brought the mare over the beginning of the month. she has some really bad scraches (the bacteria) so she is getting smz and an immune shot for that. its kind of strange, in about a week she developed a really bad case of it. We dont have any mud at the barn and we just stripped the stalls when she got there. She isnt lame but her whole leg up to her hock is swollen. Shes talked to 3 different vets who all tell her different things. The one vet tells her to pull all the scabs and put a betadine wrap on it, the other tell her to keep it clean and dry, and the last vet told her to put desitin on it daily. we used my trailer to bring her, should i was the inside out pretty well? i know rignworm spreads via direct contact, but can it spread by fomites as well?

I think that rinsing your trailer with a bleach solution is a good idea. I don't know how long the ringworm can survive in your trailer, but that stuff is hard to kill, so it's probably worth your while.
