| I too am a plus sized rider (don't have any pics yet of me on my horse). It is hard riding around all of the "thin" girls, but I got over it. Also, once I found a horse that was more suited to my build (short and thick) it was a little better. Anyone else out there....Don't be shy...Speak up!

Heck yes! I'm plus sized, and one of the only ones I know of, but I am a dang good rider! I really gained a self confidence boost this summer. I've been training my mare Ginger, a 15yr-bay-QH, for a few years. Now that may seem like a long time, and it did to me as well, but it all paid off! She and I outrode the skinny girl who won all the high school rodeos in gaming events, and outrode all the cowboys at branding when the cows got past Duane ( ) and I saved the day by cutting em off with my mare, and herded em back over to the boys...hehee (loved it!)! I don't have a pic of me and ginger on my laptop. Me and Cindy- my other QH mare who I'm working with now because she's kinda psycho. I know, she doesn't look the part but trust me, she has serious issues, hehe! She loks like crap right here cuz it's spring and I can't work with my horses in winter cuz there's ice everywhere, so this is the firt time I'm messing with her this year, but this is the only pic I have of her right now.

Here's one girl who'd rather clean out a stall then go to the mall!

| Thin, skinny... seems to be a good deal of animosity towards those in the equine world that are healthy and fit. It's very untoward to label someone descriptively by their apparent body size. Saying "Hey, it's that skinny chick over there on the bay" is akin to me saying "Yep, it's that fatty on the gray by the ring."

| I am a size 14 an wear a 1X shirt. So I guess I may be plus size. I have no animosity against thinner riders. I just hate it when I can't find the right western clothing because they are for people size 1 or 2. I am older and I do have health issues but having my horses help keep me young and sane. I think the horse world needs to reach out and have clothing for people of all different sizes. At least some of us are trying to be active even though we are not thin. Also thin doesn't always mean fit. I had a cousin at 41 died of a heart attack and he was thin. So I think just because you are heavier doesn't mean you are not healthy
Let's ride

^I agree and disagree.
I agree that there are many factors contributing to good health beyond weight alone. I agree that body type, nutrition, fitness level, and where you have the weight matters.
I disagree the weight doesn't have an enormous impact on health.
Yes, being overweight is bad for your health. How bad depends on how overweight you are, and other factors that are between you and your health care professional.
Society does not need more children; but it does need more loved children. Quite literally, we cannot afford unloved children - but we pay heavily for them every day. There should not be the slightest communal concern when a woman elects to destroy the life of her thousandth-of-an-ounce embryo. But all society should rise up in alarm when it hears that a baby that is not wanted is about to be born. ~Garrett Hardin

| I don't think that any of us were saying that being skinny or thin was a bad thing. It is just difficult to get enough self confidence and gumption to begin in and succeed in a sport where the good majority of girls are slim. There are those out there that look down at us who are overweight and don't think that we should be involved in anything they are. We were just reaching out to those that have been through what we have; those that could better understand how we feel. There are "mean girls", both small and large, out there and I would like to think that we are not some of those girls.
