I'm not sure about your horse market, but $1000 sounds like a bit for a 20year old formerly abused lesson horse.

If that's a good deal in your area, then go for it. But I would be sure before you buy.

Society does not need more children; but it does need more loved children. Quite literally, we cannot afford unloved children - but we pay heavily for them every day. There should not be the slightest communal concern when a woman elects to destroy the life of her thousandth-of-an-ounce embryo. But all society should rise up in alarm when it hears that a baby that is not wanted is about to be born. ~Garrett Hardin

In my area that's like an unheard of deal.
You've bonded with this horse? That's the #1 most important thing with the horse you buy. Of course, you need to have a vet check and rule out unsoundness. I would also mention to make sure this horse is safe for you to ride but since he's a 20-year-old ex-school horse I'm assuming he's a pretty safe ride.
Also, it's a good idea to pray about something like this.
God luck!

Sweet deal. And if you guys have a good bond then go for it. My friend bought her horse two years ago and he's now 25 but only 5 at heart. She takes him in EVERY class besides jumping! Its amazing. The 18 yr old qh i ride was draggin her butt by the end of the day!

$1000 is a great price for a fine horse like that! 20 years old is a great age if its one of your first horses. Best of luck.!!!
