Hi! I know a lot of people on here think Vanners aren't good for anything, but once you see these videos, you'll be sure to change your mind! They're not mutt horses. They've been bred for half a century by gypsies, and america is finally discovering the breed. They're really the most amazing horses.

i dont think anyone ever said they are good for nothing, they are quite pretty, but, they are just overpriced cart horses that dont really have any athletic ability. you pay for hair. never denied them not being pretty.

Proud to be owned by a thoroughbred.

I'm with Gracie on this one, we never said they were useless. We said they were over priced spotted cobs who you could get in Europe for next to nothing.

They're not worth the price tag, that's it.

Society does not need more children; but it does need more loved children. Quite literally, we cannot afford unloved children - but we pay heavily for them every day. There should not be the slightest communal concern when a woman elects to destroy the life of her thousandth-of-an-ounce embryo. But all society should rise up in alarm when it hears that a baby that is not wanted is about to be born. ~Garrett Hardin

Ditto to the above. Overpriced cart horses - they're even bred solely for meat in parts of France like cows. They have no real value outside of the U.S. and Canada. There are certainly some nice individuals, I rode one for about two years and very much enjoyed him - but he wasn't ever going to be a good performance horse outside of Gypsy "breed" shows. he could barely heave his bulk over a tiny jump, and struggled with anything beyond first level dressage. He looked hilarious in western tack. He was a great horse, reliable, and fun to ride, and was recognized as one of the better specimens in southern California (was invited to perform at the Pomona (LA) Equine Affaire several times). Even so, my draft x has better confo and is a much better mover - he just doesn't have spots or a bunch of hair. :)

LOL These "Cart horses that are good for nothing" are jumping, doing dressage with the Friesians, driving, trail riding and other stuff. I've ridden one, and they're the most amiable, comfortable horses to ride.

I agree half and half. gypsy horses r overpriced. some gypsies r very good jumpers and dressage horses. my first jump ever, was on a little gypsy mare. they r very sweet, calm, and pretty of course. some look good western, but some r just 2 big and bulky 4 western.

Do you read?

We just said that they ARE good for something, just that they are way over-priced.

bred for a whole half a century?! well, that *does* make them impressive.

bred by "gypsies" (largely regarded in Europe as homeless parasites, beggars, low-lifes, and thieves - their opinion, not mine)?! how could they possibly get any better?

No one on here is saying they're useless. Just like most mustangs who can be sweet and a good ride and a terrific horse but completely unsuited for any competitive discipline, most vanners are not suited for much more than cart horses. And there isn't a thing in the world wrong with that, if that's what you want. It's just that there are many other horses who are bred for the same purpose who do a better job for a quarter the price. When I see someone who paid a ton of money for a vanner b/c "oooh, pretty, oooh, they have 'gypsy' in their name", it just tells me they have more money than sense. But hey, it's your money, and you're more than free to do whatever you want with it. I know I'm being excessively harsh, but your immaturity is really grating. You like vanners, and we're all poor ignorant sobs who don't know what we're missing. We get it. Good for you, but don't try and tell us how they're NOT overpriced cart horses. Because they are.

I think they're pretty darn cute, I love the hair. I found some cool jumping pics of them to look at. These are all from google by the way..

^Nothing wows me about those jumping photos. They aren't bad, but not great either.
