Something that might have to do with it is the leather saddle I was comparing the synthetic too is very old, and the leather was not well taken care of. The leather is pretty stiff, and before I got it, hadn't been oiled (or even covered with a saddle cover or blanket) in years.
Again, sorry to start a conflict.

It's all good! It's not an argument - it's a discussion, and these are discussion boards :)
I don't think you have a bad sense of touch, I think you have an uneducated sense of touch - there's a big difference. A sense of feel, whether by touch or timing or "feel of the horse" is something that develops with time and practice. You haven't been riding long enough or with enough mentors, teachers, horses, and different tack situations to have developed much of that feel yet. That's not a slight to you at all, because I know that you're trying very hard to learn every day :)

Swing_Away111 (10/28/2009) Well maybe I just have a really bad sense of touch or something. Sorry to start an argument.
It's not an argument. People don't have to agree %100 of the time. Like my law teacher would say, "it's not an argument till someone gets called a moron".
Society does not need more children; but it does need more loved children. Quite literally, we cannot afford unloved children - but we pay heavily for them every day. There should not be the slightest communal concern when a woman elects to destroy the life of her thousandth-of-an-ounce embryo. But all society should rise up in alarm when it hears that a baby that is not wanted is about to be born. ~Garrett Hardin

| IMO it is more worth your while to spend extra money and get a saddle that is high quality fits your horse (the most important thing in the world is that it HAS TO FIT YOUR HORSE if not perfectly, as close to perfect as you can get) and secondly, it should fit you. if it doesn't fit but it's "inexpensive" you will be miserable and wind up spending more buying pads to make it fit, chiropracter bills to fix your horses back, and vet bills as back pain can cause major lameness, and then buying a whole new saddle then if you just buy the more expensive, but better saddle in the first place...i went through five saddles before figuring out that if i just spent the money early on i literally would have saved thousands....however, i wound up choosing a wintec close contact for one reason...I KID YOU NOT ASIDE FROM SPENDING 4K ON A CUSTOME SADDLE (not in my budget) THAT WINTEC WAS THE ONLY SADDLE THAT FIT MY HORSE. he is built like an onian with high high withers and broad shoulders and a fat back hehe. so i like synthetic but i must say, the feel is better in leather, i feel closer to my horse and it's nice, but the synthetic won't go bad if i slip in the river...which has happend. so just things to keep in mind...sorry about the length and GOOD LUCK :)

^^^Very good point Pi's Mommy. It doesn't matter how good quality or how inexpensive the saddle is if it doesn't fit the horse.
And thank you for the compliment, WM. My philosophy is, you can't learn everything from somebody, but you can learn something from everybody.
