Well, my mare April has had some trouble with her splint bone in her left hind leg, she has popped it twice in like 2-3 months...

So, I went and did some searching for something that would really support her splint while exercising and training, and found something like this:

Davis Ultimate Sports Bootsthis is the description: Davis Ultimate Sports Boots help in the prevention and rehabilitation of bowed tendons sore muscles hyper extension of the fetlock ligament injuries and all affected lower leg and joint problems. Two parallel support tubes properly positioned on the back side of the cannon bone provide excellent ligament and tendon support.nbsp The lower strap provides upward support of the fetlock.nbsp this helps to relieve stress on joint ligaments and tendons during training and exercising. Three hook and loop closures.

They look very interesting huh? I really wonder if it would help her out though, support-wise. What do you think?

Those were Merrill's first boots, and he DID NOT like them. However, he doesn't have any leg issues (well he does have a splint, but its cold). He prefers more flexible neoprene splint boots.
i say try them, but check your tack store's return policy first.

Those look like a poor imitation of SMBs or Legacys. Just get a pair of those.

What didn't he like about them? By the look of the picture it looks like a strap goes underneath the hoof..?? I'm not sure though.

Did you like them? like did you think they gave a lot of support?

I do use SMB's, but they just don't offer so much support for her splint bones, basically just her tendons and such. I like how the Legacy's have the inner "rod" thing, but that will really interfere with her splint when it's popped.

what do you like best?

I'm a Legacy girl, but if they don't do well for your horse, I would just stay with the SMB's. The splint bone doesn't really need "support" persay, its just needs protection, which both Legacys and SMBs provide. Those boots above look cheap and VERY uncomfortable for the horse. They don't look like they would mold to the horse AT ALL. Yuck.

READ THIS!!! ok did I get your attention?? anyway haha i agree with above, the splint bone is to be protected not supported, and if some normal splint boots don't do the job or you just really want the suspensory support and the legacys nor smbs are your thing i would say you should try pegasus boots, they have two straps, one suspensory, one normal closure, and insead of the inner tube i belive it just has a normal splint padding. they are expensive but my friend had a pair and they lasted a while, she even when through the creek and mud and sand with no problems. umm, as for the inner tube in the legacy's, they won't hurt your horse because it's actually quite normal for the splint to fracture, it actual becomes one bone with time, but is still two bones when a horse is young and easy to fracture, the tube won't hurt once the "pop" cools, so don't worry about that if that is the only reason you are staying away from the legacy's, good luck

Merrill didn't like how bulky they were, but he doesn't like any kind of bulky boot. They are actually very nice, not tacky at all. And they do break in over time (I've heard from people who have had success with them). I think they do provide some support, but more protection than support. And they do protect VERY well.
The strap goes under the fetlock joint, but should be at more of a diagonal, not directly under.
Like I said, I say try them, but make sure your tack shop has a good return policy.
Good luck!
